From left over backing fabric, make a drawstring bag or pillowcase to match your quilt. You can use the drawstring bag to store your quilt in, and is especially useful if you’re giving the quilt as a gift.

Quilt made by Paddy Elworthy
Paddy’s quilt uses a number of intricate quilting designs to bring out the beauty and elegance of her patchwork top. Echo and ditch quilting were used along with ¼” outlining to fill in spaces between the main colour blocks. Feature areas are allowed to stand out but also blend into the quilt due to matching the quilting style to the patchwork pattern.

Theresia’s quilt incorporated a number of different custom styles. The white blocks feature a customised feather wreath inset with a crosshatched centre. Additionally, the blocks were ditched around to make the blue feature blocks stand out.
The blue blocks were simply quilted allowing them to become the feature, by only using a ¼” line on the inside of the blue contrast. To tie in with the wreath quilting in the white blocks, the outer boarder features an inset feather boarder while the inner boarder contains a free hand half feather.
Matching colour threads were used to allow the quilting to blend in rather then stand out against the fabrics.

Crosshatching was used predominantly for the background of this traditionally appliquéd and embroidered quilt, allowing for a subtle texture to be added in the large empty space for the quilt.
All embroidered and appliquéd elements were outlined to give them definition. The thinner boarders were ditched to act as a resting point for the eye, while subtle the crosshatching directs the eyes flow through the quilt, so simple ditched boarders break the flow through the quit permitting the viewer to take in the intricate detail of the embroidery.
The outer boarder contains an inset full feather design, which is subtle and allows a simple (in contrast) boarder framing the quilt by its minimalism.
